Lexplore & Microsoft Education

Lexplore is a Swedish company that has its origins from a research project at the Karolinska Institutet (which has been selected the Nobel laureates in Physiology and Medicine since 1901). With the use of Eye-tracking, Artificial Intelligence and many years of research, we can identify students’ reading ability at an early stage and help develop literacy skills through their school years.

Lexplore assesses each student in 3-5 minutes, giving teachers more instructional time.  Lexplore’s use of AI and eye-tracking is accurate, objective, and rich with data to ensure each student gets the right support.  In addition, because it measures oral and silent reading, students that are non-verbal benefit from the power of Lexplore. The results portal, accessible from MS Teams or stand-alone, clearly show staff and administrators how each school district or municipality are progressing reading development across all schools, classrooms, and students.

Microsoft Teams
Lexplores results and support material is integrated in Microsoft Teams to make it easy accessible for teachers and schools to work with the AI driven results on a daily basis. It also gives easy access to reading material synchronized with objective reading results.

Microsoft 365
All school organizations using Microsoft 365 is able to use the accounts and log ins to access the Lexplore system and results.

Microsoft Azure
The complete Lexplore service is cloud based and run on Microsofts Azure platform. This make it a secure, easily scalable solution with encryption and data handling according to standards and legislations all over the world.

Today 200,000 screenings have been conducted, Lexplore is used in hundreds of schools in six different countries. Several school organizations use Lexplore as a key data point in their educational development.
Lexplore has been widely awarded and acknowledged, including the top 10 an the ASU/GSV cup elite, UNESCO innovation award, Nordic EdTech Award, the Best Scale up for Wellbeing EIT, the Best Intelligent Cloud Solution by Microsoft, a Teach Primary SEND Award and a Digital Device Award, finalist in the BETT Awards and more. Mersey Vale

Mersey Vale Primary was determined to make sure every pupil with a reading difficulty could be identified and provided with targeted support. But the reading assessments the school used to evaluate its pupils only told part of the story.

So over a period of two days, every child from Year 2 to Year 5 took the Lexplore reading assessment. Find out more about Lexplore in Mersey Vale by reading our Case Study.

“ If we don’t want struggling readers to lose confidence, we need to radically change how and when we pick up on literacy issues. Current reading assessments are simply not good enough. When we look at a standard test score in isolation, it tells us that a child can’t read. It doesn’t tell us why that child can’t read. Lexplore gives us much more than a simple score or percentile, making it easier for teachers to uncover the potential reasons why a child cannot read. “

” Teachers are already under a huge amount of pressure in the classroom, so it’s imperative to get as much information into their hands as possible about children’s literacy. New developments in AI technology by Lexplore are paving the way for exactly this. By using AI technology to monitor how a child’s eye moves when reading – in a way that’s quick, easy and fun for the child – it’s possible to gain incredibly detailed insight into how his or her brain is processing text at different levels. “

Freemantle Community Academy

Nearly half of pupils at Freemantle C of E Community Academy speak English as an additional language (EAL), and almost all are new to English when they arrive. With a quarter also eligible for Pupil Premium, the school aims to open up opportunities for every child by getting them on track with their reading.

To make sure that all pupils have the opportunity to fly high with their reading skills whatever their circumstances, Freemantle introduced Lexplore’s reading assessment programme…

HEADTEACHER • MERSEY VALE PRIMARY SCHOOL

“We have found the results of the screening confirm and back-up other assessments that we carry out in school as well as highlighting some children (particularly girls and those who use coping strategies to present as confident readers) who may have a reading difficulty that has not previously been recognised.

The screening process is quick, straightforward and easy to manage within the normal day-to-day organisation of school. The presentation of results is clear, visual and easily accessible both with regard to whole class/ school outcomes and individual results. We especially like the ability to watch the actual recording of eye-movement whilst hearing the child read aloud.

We are impressed by the privacy of the results which require appropriate security measures to access. The results have enabled us to plan more targeted intervention and adapt quality first teaching to meet the needs of all children.

We are planning to use the results within forthcoming transition meetings between class teachers. Feedback from children was really positive and they are looking forward to the next screening sessions.”
